William D. Schoenfeld
Founder / Chairman
Mr. Schoenfeld founded the APL Group in 1994 with Mr. Reitknecht.
With over 30 years of experience and accomplishments in the real estate market, APL Group has grown into an international investment firm with offices in the United States, Europe, and Asia under Schoenfeld’s leadership,.
Prior to 1994, Mr. Schoenfeld worked at BA (Asia) Limited, a subsidiary of Bank of America, Jones Lang Wootton (now Jones Lang LaSalle), and Haseko Corporation (Tokyo), overseeing real estate operations in the Asia-Pacific region and providing advisory services to investors on property acquisitions, real estate financing, fundraising, and structuring.
Mr. Schoenfeld graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He speaks Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Indonesian, and is an active philanthropist and impact investor across Asia, with a history of supporting children’s education, the environment, and poverty alleviation.
Richard J. Reitknecht
Co-Founder / Executive Vice President
Mr. Reitknecht co-founded the APL Group in 1994 with Mr. Schoenfeld.
Mr. Reitknecht oversees all of APL Group’s operations around the globe and leads investor and lender relations. He oversees and personally plays a significant part in sourcing all of the firm’s investment opportunities and securing investment partners, contributing to the growth of the APL Group
Prior to 1994, Mr. Reitknecht at Chemical Bank (now JPMorgan Chase Bank) and Balis Zorn Gerrard, handling middle-market lending, working capital management, research, and project finance.
Mr. Reitknecht graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Mr. Reitknecht is a member of the Executive Committee for Urban Land Institute (ULI) Japan, a Founding Member of the Asia Society Japan, a Board Member of Jazz at Lincoln Center, and has held various leadership roles including Chapter Chairman of the Pan-Asia division of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).
